ÇGH, following the contracts earned, quickly completed its preparations and started operations in the two most important cities and at the two airports with the heaviest air traffic in India, a giant country that grows rapidly in aviation. Çelebi started offering ground handling services at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai from July 2009 and cargo services at the Delhi International Indira Gandhi Airport in the capital city New Delhi from November 2009. British Airways became the first customer of Çelebi-Nas India that started providing ground handling service on 01 July 2009 at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. Çelebi incorporated Çelebi Nas India within the frame of the 10-year ground handling license contract earned at the end of 2008 and controls 51% share in it.
In relation to the 25-year air warehouse operation license contract earned in the first half of 2009 for the New Delhi International Airport, Çelebi established Çelebi Delhi Cargo Management, in which it participates by 74%, and commenced activities. Ground handling services are slated for commencement in a short while at the same airport, within the framework of the 10-year ground handling license contract earned in November 2009. With this result, Çelebi has earned the third tender consecutively in India that sees a rapid development in the aviation industry, as it did in the EU-members Hungary and Bulgaria.
Handling approximately 23 million passengers and 220 thousand flights on an annual basis, Delhi International İndira Gandhi Airport is targeted to offer service to 37 million passengers annually in 2012, 50 million in 2016 and 66 million in 2021. Once ground handling services start at Delhi following Mumbai, Çelebi will be servicing 50% of the international air traffic in India.
